Today, 15 of our Retail stores are holding simultaneous “Girls Night Out Shopping Parties” to benefit the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer. Fresh Produce will be donating a generous 10% of event sales to the foundation, a wonderful organization that funds groundbreaking research in an effort to find a cure.
In conjunction with the store events, we’ve had a fun PINK day in the office to help raise awareness and to support the stores’ fundraising efforts. Here are some pics from today.

Living the FP Life!

In 1984, our founders, Thom and Mary Ellen Vernon, were wide-eyed, excited and full of life…they still are and now also share their zest for life with their two growing sons (and Spankie, the little black pug). Fresh Produce has gone a lot of places with you since its humble beginnings at the LA Olympics in 1984 and as the line has grown, so too has the spirit of the Fresh Produce brand. Now more than ever, we are dedicated to bringing vivid color and cheer to women and children around the world.

Last Thanksgiving, the Vernon Family traded turkey for hammers and nails and helped build houses in Tijuana, Mexico.

In late 2006, Typhoon Durian devastated the Philippines. In response, Fresh Produce sent 36,000 pieces of sunny and happy clothing to the region through long-time partner, Children International. Since 2000 we’ve partnered with the global humanitarian organization and have sent more than 175,000 pieces of clothing around the world in just the past two years. Our ongoing dedication was proudly recognized by the Philippine Ambassador at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. this spring!

Fresh Produce is also aglow at the Lovia School in Accra, Ghana, a preschool funded with love by Carol Freund, mother of our own Customer Service Diva, Kathe. The school started with 10 kids in a garage and now lovingly supports 150 students! These are just some of the ways that we are “Living the FP Life” and helping others enjoy color. We want to know how your brighten the world and “live the FP life” because even the smallest gestures can make a huge impact in someone’s life.  Leave us a comment about all of the wonderful things you do everyday!live life enjoy color,  ~ fresh-E

The official “Bike to Work Day” is finally here!

Yes, the official day is here and we biked to work in costume!!!!  I counted 66 people on my ride in today.  I’m not sure how much more that is than on a normal day, but in 5 miles it seems like a lot to me.  We’re all getting very excited here at Fresh Produce because at the end of the week, a cool cruiser bike is being given away to one lucky winner.  I’m keeping my fingers crossed.  Happy Wednesday everybody!  ;) fresh-E

Bike to Work Week Kickoff

I must say, one of the great things about living in Boulder, is the fact that there are hundreds of miles of bike trails, and bike lanes EVERYWHERE!  It’s fantastic and makes the morning commute that much more enjoyable.  Today kicks off the 2007 Walk & Bike to Work Week - Wednesday is the official “Bike to Work Day” (costumes are encouraged), but we’re celebrating all week long here at Fresh Produce.  And those who can’t walk or bike are taking the bus. Here are some quick facts.

Background: Walk & Bike Week is coordinated each June by GO Boulder/city of Boulder. It was first hosted by the city of Boulder in 1977, 30 years ago, as “Bike to Work Day.” As its popularity and sponsorship interest grew so did the event. In 1982, it expanded to Walk & Bike Week. Since 2003, Boulder has coordinated with the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) to include Walk and Bike Week in the celebration of Colorado Bike Month as well as to promote Bike to Work Day in the Denver metro region.  Boulder continues to add various local touches to the event.

Goal: Increase awareness and use of Boulder’s over 300 miles of award-winning and convenient bike and pedestrian facilities.

Approach: Boulder’s Walk & Bike Week is a partnership of the city, local businesses and the community. From January through June, events are planned that highlight Boulder’s award-winning walking and biking facilities to demonstrate how convenient, easy and cost-efficient it is to walk and bike.

Expectations:   Over 4,000 participants are expected to bike or walk on Bike to Work Day, with countless others participating in various events during the week-long event.

Does your city have something like this?  If so, tell us about it!  We’d love to hear your stories.  :) fresh-E
