FP is again bringing more of its vibrant colors, comfortable styles and seasonally-inspired prints to southern California with a brand new Fresh Produce Handpicked location (an independently and locally owned store) in Belmont Shore. Centrally located 4718 E. 2nd Avenue, the new Handpicked store opened to enthusiastic customers on Friday, June 26th.
For the co-founders of Fresh Produce Sportswear, Thom and Mary Ellen Vernon, the launch of the Belmont Shore location is pure joy. Says Thom, “We are so excited to see a store in Belmont Shore, our old stomping grounds, where we got our start back in 1984. 2nd Street sure brings back great memories…We still have lots of history there and have maintained many ties to the Long Beach community (we are still producing the majority of our clothing line right here in the L.A. area). This location is quite a step up from the days of selling our t-shirts at 2nd and Redondo Street! We are thrilled!”
A Fresh Look for Belmont Shore
The 1,500-square foot store’s colorful, appealing atmosphere invites locals and visitors to drop in and linger, reflecting the laid back nature of the company’s coastal roots. Store co-owners Deanna Frieze and Charlie Rohrer are pleased to bring Fresh Produce style to the seaside community of Belmont Shore.
The pair believes that Fresh Produce is a perfect match for southern California’s sunny climate, warm temperatures and laid-back lifestyle. With the success of the other seven company-owned and independently owned and operated Handpicked store locations in California, it made sense to bring Fresh Produce to the buzzing Belmont Shore area. Explains Deanna: “Belmont Shore has a great climate and active, on-the-go clientele that completely resonates with the Fresh Produce apparel line. For me, Fresh Produce really captures the essence of the southern California lifestyle through their clothing — with sun-drenched colors, inspiring prints and relaxed styling. Our clothes let you take a little piece of a relaxed mindset with you wherever you go. Fresh Produce clothes let you get that feeling of vacation everyday!”
The new store will bring classic Fresh Produce style to 2nd Street with clothing that offers current styling, flattering cuts, inspired designs and bold colors. The store’s apparel for women consists of active wear including tees, tanks and shirts, skirts, pants, jackets, dresses, and loungewear. Additionally, the store will carry Fresh Produce clothing for kids and toddlers, as well as Extra Fresh, the company’s successful women’s plus-size line.
Deanna and Charlie feel the loyalists of Fresh Produce, a brand that has long enjoyed popularity in coastal communities, will be thrilled to discover this new store in the heart of Los Angeles county. “The local response has been very positive. The local residents are thrilled to have so much Fresh Produce available in the vicinity.”
The owners believe bringing Fresh Produce to Belmont Shore will also introduce a whole new audience to the company’s fresh, fun and colorful style.
Says Deanna, “Fresh Produce clothes are a perfect fit for Belmont’s warm climate and relaxed beach-going lifestyle. Residents will want to live, play and relax in Fresh Produce clothing everyday because they make you feel so good. In these challenging times, everyone wants to feel better and our colors really brighten things up. What better way to live your life than in color?”
